Detect and characterize molecules in tiny volumes. NMR imaging with single, shallow NVs has recently been demonstrated in the 50-100 molecule regime. Molecules can be bound to the surface with appropriate treatment and then be sensed via the nitrogen vacancy center. This opens to the road to localized chemical characterization.
